LOS ANGELES - After the Bruins defeated both No. 2 Stanford and No. 15 California last weekend, junior Mac May was named Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Lexi Hadrych earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week accolades, as announced by the league on Monday.
May produced 33 kills and a .338 hitting percentage in the two Bruin victories, adding 19 digs, four blocks and an ace. Last Friday (Oct. 25) against Stanford, May registered 12 kills and 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the year. She added a match-best 21 kills versus California on Sunday (Oct. 27), her third contest this season with at least 20 kills. May was a dig shy of another double-double, posting nine.
Hadrych had 10 kills in each of last weekend's victories for her second- and third-straight double-figure kills contests. She hit .368 against the Cardinal and added a block. Versus the Golden Bears, Hadrychย recorded three blocks with her 10 kills.
The victory against Stanford marked UCLA's first against a top two team since Nov. 26, 2015 against USC, while it was also the first time the Cardinal had been swept since '15.
For May, it is the fourth time she has been honored with a Pac-12 weekly award. She was Freshman of the Week twice in 2017 and was the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3, 2018. It marks the first conference honor for Hadrych.
The Bruins, checking in at No. 25 in this week's AVCA Coaches poll, will travel to No. 22 Washington State on Friday at 7 p.m. The match will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
