NEW YORK – The UCLA women's basketball team earned a No. 11 ranking in the both Associated Press (AP) Preseason Poll and USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Poll.
The Bruins were one of five Pac-12 teams ranked in the AP top-25, which tied the SEC and Big Ten for the second-most ranked squads. The ACC led the way with six ranked teams. The Pac-12 boasted three teams in the top-10 – No. 1 Oregon, No. 3 Stanford and No. 7 Oregon State. Arizona State also snuck into the poll at No. 20.
Oregon was also the favorite in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Poll, which had three teams from the Pac-12 in the top-10 (No. 3 Stanford, No. 6 Oregon State). Additional Pac-12 teams in the poll included UCLA and No. 18 Arizona State.
UCLA returns three starters from a year ago, led by junior Michaela Onyenwere, the team's top returning scorer (18.3 PPG) and rebounder (8.5 RPG). She also led the way with 4.1 offensive boards per game in 2018-19, ranking second in the Pac-12 and seventh nationally. The Bruins also bring back point guard Japreece Dean (14.1 PPG, 4.9 APG) and 2019 All-Pac-12 Freshman selection Lindsey Corsaro (7.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG). A top-10 recruiting class will also make its debut in Westwood, highlighted by two McDonald's All-Americans in Jaden Owens and Charisma Osborne.
Last season, UCLA finished 22-13 en route to reaching its fourth-consecutive Sweet 16. The Bruins knocked off then-No. 9 Maryland in College Park before giving No. 2 UConn all it could handle in the Albany Regional.
