LOS ANGELES – All-around performances from several Bruins helped the No. 11 UCLA women's basketball team take down Loyola Marymount 74-52 on Saturday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
Lindsey Corsaro matched a career-high of 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting to go along with six assists, and Lauryn Miller collected her first-career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
A defensive prowess, Natalie Chou played a team-high 32 minutes and had five steals and three blocks to go along with 15 points and seven boards, while Chantel Horvat played in her first game since Jan. 11, 2019, and contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
After leading by just seven after the first quarter, UCLA outscored LMU in the second frame 32-13 to break away.
UCLA (2-0) opened the game on an 8-0 run, getting six points from Corsaro, all of which came in the paint. The Lions slowly crept back into the contest, getting as close as five before Michaela Onyenwere snapped a Bruin dry spell with a layup to make it 16-9 UCLA.
In the second frame, UCLA used back-to-back three's coming from Chou and Onyenwere to double-up the Lions (22-11). A no-look pass from Chou and layup by Horvat extended the Bruin advantage to 13 (24-11).
Baskets by Corsaro and Miller put UCLA up 33-16, and another 8-0 spurt from the Bruins stretched the advantage to 23 (41-18). UCLA forced LMU to miss nine of its last 10 from the field in the first half, and Corsaro notched a 3-point play the old-fashioned way on a strong drive to hoop to put UCLA on top by 26 (48-22) at the break.
A steal and layup by Chou moved her into double figures for the first time as a Bruin with 7:16 left in the third quarter. Both teams endured scoring droughts in the stanza, but UCLA's comfortable halftime lead and a 9-2 run to finish the quarter helped the Bruins enter the fourth up 60-35. UCLA's lead swelled to 30 after another triple from Chou and feed to Miller on the fast break, and LMU never inched closer than 19.
