Fleming Named Finalist for MAC Hermann Trophy

December 05, 2019 | Women's Soccer

UCLA senior midfielder Jessie Fleming is a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy for the second time in her illustrious career.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college soccer. The other two finalists are Stanford's Catarina Macario and North Carolina's Emily Fox. The winner will be announced at the annual MAC Hermann Trophy banquet on Jan. 3, 2020 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Additionally, Fleming earned first-team All-America honors by the United Soccer Coaches for the second time. She will finish her career this weekend as a three-time All-American, having earned third-team honors as a freshman.

Fleming has led the 18-4-1 Bruins to their second College Cup in three years. The Bruins go into Friday's semifinal on a nine-game winning streak and have won 12 of their last 13 games. Fleming, who is coming off her second World Cup this past summer, has totaled three goals and four assists this season while controlling play in the midfield. This season, she has earned first-team All-Pacific Region honors, and she also became just the third Bruin ever to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors all four years. Fleming is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which honors student-athletes who excel on and off the field. The materials engineering major and environmental science minor has earned honor roll distinction four times and Pac-12 All-Academic honors twice in her career.

A team captain for UCLA for three years, Fleming has been an impact player from day one, scoring two goals in her first game as a freshman in 2016 and then leading the team in goals scored (11) and points (27) that year to earn Top Drawer Soccer's Freshman of the Year award. She was a finalist for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy after leading the Bruins to the NCAA Championship game, and although she missed half of the 2018 season while on Canadian National Team duty, Fleming still totaled five goals and five assists in just 11 games and was a first-team All-Pac-12 honoree.
