Matthew Slater made one special teams tackle and downed a punt at the two-yard line in New England'sย Super Bowl LIII Win on Sunday. It was Slater's third Super Bowl win as a member of the Patriots and the fifth Super Bowl in his 10-year NFL career.
Slater lettered for UCLA football in the 2006 and 2007 seasons. As a senior, he earned first-team All-America honors as a kick returner following a season in which he returned three kickoffs for touchdowns and led the Pac-10 in kickoff return average (29.00 yards). His season average set a school record, as did his 986 return yards and his 34 returns (both since broken). The three touchdown returns also set school marks for both a season and for a career.
Slater played defensive back and wide receiver for the Bruins during his career (2004-07). He was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft by New England.
