The UCLA track & field team finished day one of the outdoor season, making strong showings at the Willie Williams Classic and Baldy Castillo Invitational in Arizona.

While a majority of the Bruins competed in Tucson, the UCLA pole vaulters took part in the Baldy Castillo Invite in Tempe, where Elleyse Garrett secured first place in the event, clearing 4.08m (13-4.5).

At the Willie Williams Classic, Simon Litzell won the javelin in his 2019 debut, posting a mark of 71.24m (233-8) on his third attempt.
In the long jump, Isaiah Holmes got off to a strong start for the outdoor campaign, placing first with a mark of 7.56m (24-9.75), while Matthew DeRoosย took third overall (7.19m).ย

Amongst a group of seasoned veterans, it was the freshman Nyree Brown who stood out in the 400m hurdles, placing third with a time of 1:03.57.
