UCLA Track & Field Records Five First-Place Finishes in Home Opener

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track & field team had its home opening meet on Friday in front of 602 fans at Drake Stadium, notching four first-place finishes in the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and another in the Jim Bush Legends Invitational to highlight day one.
 
Alyssa Wilson kicked off the Jim Bush Legends Invitational in style, taking first place in the hammer with a mark of 67.67m (222-0).
 
UCLA also registered strong performances in the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival, getting first-place finishes in the women's 1500m (Sophie Scott; 4:35.40), men's one-mile run (Arturo Sotomayor; 4:03.07), women's 10K (Christina Rice; 34:25.25) and men's 10K (Robert Brandt; 28:55.27).
 
The Bruins saw extended movement in its all-time top 10 outdoor list.
 
In the men's hammer, Justin Stafford earned second place with a toss of 66.72m (218-10), moving him to No. 4 all-time in program history.
 
Brandt's effort in the 10K improved him to No. 5 all-time, while Claire Markey took third in the 3000m steeple with a time of 10:38.80, the seventh-fastest time in program history.
 
Erika Adler's time of 16:16.22 in the 5000m ranks No. 5 all-time at UCLA and led her to a second-place finish, while Garrett Reynolds' mark of 29:05.88 in the 10K earned him a second-place finish and the ninth-fastest time in program history.
 
UCLA returns to action tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. (PT) with the men's high jump and men's javelin at Drake Stadium.
