No. 1 UCLA Falls in Pac-12 Championship Dual

LOS ANGELESย --ย No. 1 UCLA (31-3) fell to No. 2 USC (28-4) in the Pac-12 Championship final, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at USC's Merle Norman Stadium.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead after the first wave as both court four and court five pulled out tight straight-set victories.
Senior Izzy Carey and freshman Lindsey Sparks took down the Trojans' Cammie Dorn and Mollie Ebertinย in straight sets on court five to score the first point of the dual, 21-15, 21-18.
Junior Savvy Simo and sophomore Lea Monkhouseย put UCLA up 2-0 with a win in straight sets over USC's Joy Dennis and Maja Kaiser,.23-21, 26-24.
The Trojans got their first point of the dual on court three when Haley Hallgrenย and Alexandra Polettoย defeated freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Muno in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18.
Then USC tied it at 2-2 when Abril Bustamante and Tina Graudina defeated UCLA's Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara in straight sets on court one, 21-18, 21-17.
The championship point of the dual came down to court three where Sammy Slater and Terese Cannon rallied to defeat the Bruins' senior Sarah Sponcil and junior Lily Justine, 18-21, 21-16, 15-12.
The Bruins' court five pair of Carey and Sparks and the court two pair of Justine and Sponcil were both named to the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team.
The Bruins now wait for the NCAA Championship bracket to be announced on Sunday, April 28, at 4:00 p.m. PT on NCAA.com.
