TUCSON, Ariz. โ€“ Things are turning around quickly for the UCLA track & field team. The 2019 Pac-12 Championships was exceptional for the Bruins, as the men finished second, and the women saw Alyssa Wilson earn Pac-12 Female Meet Athlete of the Year.
ย
The UCLA men finished with 140 points, their highest point tally since 2004 and best finish since 2005. Meanwhile, Wilson accounted for 26 of the eighth-place UCLA women's 55 points. She had the most points out of any athlete, male or female.
ย
In total, UCLA notched five individual champions: Simon Litzell (men's javelin), Robert Brandt (men's 10K), Sondre Guttormsen (men's pole vault), Elleyse Garrett (women's pole vault) and Wilson (women's discus).

MEN'S RUNDOWN
Guttormsen didn't compete in the outdoor season until Sunday, but that's all he needed to qualify for regionals and win his first career Pac-12 title. He was the lone competitor after three pole vaulters missed 5.27m. Guttormsen finished with a top mark of 5.36m (17-7), making him the first Bruin to win the event since 2013.
ย
Michael Fancey placed second in the pole vault, matching a career-best 5.22m (17-1.5), followed by Kyle Brown in eighth and Tate Curran in ninth.
ย
The Bruins were dominant in the high jump, finishing 2-3-4. Freshman Sean Lee made a name for himself in his Pac-12 postseason debut, earning second and tying his PR of 2.17m (7-1.5). Isaiah Holmes was right behind at 2.14m (7-0.25), as was senior Michael Burke, who qualified for regionals.
ย
Senior Dotun Ogundeji finished with 16 points in his final Pac-12 Championships, earning second-place finishes in both the discus (57.53m; 188-9) and shot put (20.22m; 66-4.25). Otito Ogbonnia also chipped in a point in the discus, placing eighth at 53.22m (174-7).
ย
Between the long and triple jumps, Harrison Schrage scored 10 points for UCLA. He finished fourth in both events, posting marks of 7.52m (24-8.25) in the long and 14.94m (49-0.25) in the triple.
ย
On the track, Joe Herrera beat yesterday's previous PR, logging an outstanding 400mย effort in 46.25 to place second and reap eight points. Senior teammate Cameron Stone took sixth at 46.93.
ย
Myles Webb placed eighth in the 100m dash (10.50), while senior Leon Powell finished eighth as well in the 200m at 21.06.

For the second consecutive season, Wilson finished second in the hammer, posting a top effort of 67.78m (222-4), which came on her final attempt. Garrett's winning mark of 4.36m (14-3.5) moved her to No. 3 in UCLA's all-time list. She nailed her first five clearances and then came up clean on her third attempt 4.23m. With the bar at 4.36m, Garrett came up short on her first attempt before making history on attempt No. 2.ย
ย
Ashlie Blake also scored points in the shot put, going third at 16.65m (54-7.5).
ย
Freshman Jai Gruenwald made an explosive Pac-12 postseason debut, reaching the finals of the long jump with a PR of 5.85m (19-2.5), and later finishing 10th overall before another lightning delay halted the action. She took 16th in the triple jump, behind Jazmin Moss, who earned 14th at 11.53m (37-10).
