ROCHESTER, N.Y. and VANCOUVER, B.C., Canada - It was a Sunday of winning for a pair of Bruin alums, as Ken Tanigawa won the 80th Senior PGA Championship on the PGA TOUR Champions, while Jake Knapp claimed the season-opening Canada Life Open on the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada.
Tanigawa posted his second PGA TOUR Champions victory and his first major win at Oak Hill Country Club. He shot an even-par 70 on Sunday to finish at 3-under 277, rallying from a three-shot deficit entering the final round. Tanigawa, who won the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach, finished one shot ahead of his college teammate, Scott McCarron (-2, 278). A total of four Bruin alums placed inside the Top 10, as Corey Pavin and Duffy Waldorf tied for eighth (+4, 284).
Knapp had an even bigger comeback at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club, entering the final round down by five before firing an 8-under 64 to finish at 21-under 267 (tournament record), winning by two. It is the first professional victory for Knapp. He was joined in the Top 5 by former teammate Lorens Chan, who shot a 9-under 63 on Sunday to tie for fourth (-18, 270). With the win, Knapp earned an exemption into next month's PGA TOUR RBC Canadian Open.
