Tavatanakit Wins Second-Straight NCAA Regional, Bruins Advance to Nationals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - For the second year in a row, sophomore Patty Tavatanakit won the NCAA Regional, earning medalist honors at the Forest Akers West Golf Course. As a team, the Bruins finished third to advance to the upcoming NCAA Championship (May 17-22) in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tavatanakit, who won for the seventh time in her career and third time this season, shot a 1-under 71 on Wednesday to finish at 8-under 208, winning by four strokes. After making a birdie (No. 6) and three bogeys on her front nine, she had three birdies (No. 11, 13 and 17) and six pars on her back nine to finish under par for the day. Tavatanakit's win is the eighth for the Bruins in NCAA Regional play (Bronte Law, 2016; Stephanie Kono, 2011; Maria Jose Uribe, 2008 and 2009; Sydnee Michaels, 2007; Hannah Jun, 2004).
UCLA shot a 5-over 293 in the final round to finish at 10-under 874.
Senior Beth Wu tied for 11th (+2, 218), shooting a 1-over 73 on Wednesday. She made a pair of birdies on No. 13 and 17 and three bogeys. Junior Clare Legaspi tied for 27th (+6, 222), posting a 5-over 77 on three birdies (No. 5, 6 and 15), five bogeys and a triple. Junior Mariel Galdiano tied for 53rd (+12, 228), recording a second-consecutive, 2-over 74 on four birdies (No. 3, 10, 11 and 13), two bogeys and two doubles. Freshman Phoebe Yue tied for 82nd (+21, 237), notching a 3-over 75 on three birdies (No. 1, 6 and 17) and six bogeys.
