LEXINGTON, Ky.,ย --ย The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) named Jenny Johnson Jordan as the AVCA National Assistant Beach Coach of the Year on Thursday.
Johnson Jordan just completed her sixth season as an assistant with the UCLA beach volleyball team in 2019, helping the Bruins win their second-straight NCAA Championship.
Johnson Jordan, according to UCLA Head Coach Stein Metzger, is basically a co-head coach. She performs many duties in concert with Metzgerย that are usually associated with the head coach.
"Sheย writes practice plans and runs practices and has coached every pair at some point during the season," Metzger said. "She also takes the lead on leadership training and is the Bruins' point person for counseling for team members. She also handles all responsibilities of a Director of Operations including but not limited to travel, food, and lodging. Sheย oversees the Bruins' efforts in academics and participates in other head coach duties such as fundraising, meeting with administrators, and assisting in making partner decisions."
Jordan also conducts ministry work with her husband, Kevin, working withย several sports teams on campus. She works with a lot of UCLA teams on campus conducting pregame chapel and meeting with student-athletes in group settings or on a one-on-one basis. She also runs team bonding events for other sports on campus as well as beach volleyball.ย
