Washington Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of Week
June 11, 2019 | Softball
Sophomore Kinsley Washington from the UCLA softball team has been named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for June 3-9.
Washington produced six hits in a pair of WCWS Championship Series victories last Monday and Tuesday, but none bigger than her final hit, as her single to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning scored junior Jacqui Prober to clinch UCLA Softball's 13th National Championship. In the two games against Oklahoma, Washington was 6-for-8 (.750) with two RBI and three runs scored. On Monday, the sophomore set a new career high with four hits and three runs scored, starting a run-scoring inning in the third with a single and driving in a two-out run in the fourth. She also singled and scored in the sixth and seventh innings of the 16-3, blowout victory.
Washington reached on a bunt hit in her second at-bat on Tuesday, but saved her best for last, stroking a 1-0 pitch into the outfield to drive in the Championship-clinching run. For her efforts throughout the entire Women's College World Series, in which she hit .471 (8-for-17) with four runs and three RBI, she was named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team. Washington led the Bruins with a .455 average (15-for-33) during the postseason with 11 runs scored and seven RBI.
This is Washington's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week award this season and in her career.
