SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica โ Otito Ogbonnia is the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships shot put champion.

A native of Houston, Texas, Ogbonnia threw 20.72m (67-11.5) on attempt No. 5, which broke a tie with second-place finisher Joshua Sobota, who posted a mark of 20.56m (67-5.5). A total of 16 athletes competed in this event of the competition.ย

Ogobonnia continues to add to his superb resume that includes a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships and a first-place finish at the USATF U20 Championships, where recorded a throw of 21.42m (70-3.5) on his final attempt to capture first place in Miramar, Fla. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, he finished 10th at 19.44m (63-9.5) to earn Second Team All-America honors.
