Faraimo, Godin Help Team USA to Gold at WBSC World Cup

IRVINE, Calif. -ย Rising sophomores Megan Faraimo and Kelli Godin helped the United States U-19 Women's National Team to gold at the 2019 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-19 Women's Softball World Cup. The win gave Team USA its record third-consecutive World Cup title and seventh overall.
Faraimo starred in the circle for the Red, White and Blue, earning three wins and allowing just one earned run in 21 2/3 innings (0.32 earned run average). She struck out 43 and gave up eight hits and no walks. Faraimo opened with a four-inning perfect game on Aug. 10 against Mexico, striking out all 12 batters she faced. Three days later against Canada, she was a part of a combined perfect game, fanning eight in three innings. Faraimo went the distance on Aug. 15 versus Japan, striking out 14 in the victory and giving up just three hits. Then in the gold medal contest against Japan on Aug. 17, she struck out nine in 7 2/3 innings, allowing an earned run and five hits.ย
Godin appeared in all 10 games, recording three hits in 15 at-bats (.200) with three runs scored and two walks. She collected singles versus Mexico, Canada and China (Aug. 16), scored runs against Mexico, Botswana (Aug. 11) and Canada and walked versus Botswana and Chinese Taipei (Aug. 15).
The World Cup wraps up the summer schedule for the U-19 WNT, which featured a 3-1 showing at the Achille Challenge (Paris), a 1-0 finish at the Atlantic Challenge Cup (Ireland) and a third-place performance at the USA Softball International Cup (Columbus, Ga.).
