LOS ANGELES โ UCLA baseball's incoming class of recruits has been ranked No. 5 in the country, it was revealed on Thursday by Baseball America. ย
This marks the second consecutive season that UCLA has both been ranked inside the top-five and had the highest-ranked class in the West. The Bruins have had a nationally-ranked recruiting class in six consecutive offseasons, and have turned in top-five groups three times since 2015.
Baseball America listed the Bruins' top new recruit as infielder Michael Curialle, who earned first team All-West Coast League honors this summer. Playing against college-age competition, the JSerra Catholic High School product batted .281 for the Corvallis Knights, including a two-homer game on Jul. 4.
Curialle, a 31st round selection by the Colorado Rockies, was one of two incoming Bruins to be drafted this last summer. Darius Perry, a catcher out of La Mirada High School, was picked in the 38th round, also by Colorado.
Other top recruits include left-handed pitcher Josh Hahn (Gatorade state player of the year for California), outfielder Emanuel Dean (three-time Perfect Game All-American), outfielder Patrick Caulfield (first team All-WCL this summer), left-hander Jake Saum (first team All-County at St. Bonaventure HS), righty Jared Karros (son of UCLA alum Eric, No. 26-ranked RHP in California), righty Adrian Chaidez (7-1, 3.48 ERA, 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings this past season at Cypress College), and righty Charles Harrison (preseason All-American as a high school senior).
