LOS ANGELES – Michaela Onyenwere received WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention acclaim, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Thursday.
This is the second-straight year the Onyenwere has garnered national honorable mention distinction from the WBCA. It's also the fourth-straight season UCLA student-athletes have notched honorable mention honors, as former Bruins Jordin Canada and Monique Billings were each tabbed to the list in 2017 and 2018.
The national recognition from the WBCA is just the latest accolade on Onyenwere's extensive list of postseason honors. The junior was recently tabbed a Third-Team All-American from the Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers' Association. She also earned All-Pac-12 honors for the second-straight year and earned a spot on the 2020 Pac-12 All-Tournament Team, averaging 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds across the Bruins' games at the Conference Tournament in Las Vegas.
Onyenwere is coming off a junior campaign that saw her put up 18.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest, the second and fourth-leading marks in the Pac-12, respectively. She recorded her second-straight 500+ point season and became the 36th player in program history to reach the 1,000-career-point milestone. She notched 13 games with at least 20 points and added 10 double-doubles on the year.
The Aurora, Colo., native helped lead UCLA to a 26-5 record this season as the team was on track to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins the best start in program history (16-0) and were the nation's last remaining undefeated team.
