Head coach Michael Sealy has announced the addition of Eric Barber to the UCLA women's volleyball coaching staff.

"I am excited to announce the hiring of Eric Barber as the new assistant coach for UCLA women's volleyball," Sealy said. "Eric is a passionate, up-and-coming coach who has a very high volleyball IQ and amazing drive. He has honed his craft through time spent with USC, Washington and most recently Cal Poly. Eric has the character and values that align with UCLA, and I am looking forward to the contributions he will make in the department."

Barber spent the 2019 season at Cal Poly, where the Mustangs compiled a 21-9 record, a second-place finish in the Big West Conference and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round.

Prior to working in San Luis Obispo last season, Barber was a volunteer assistant coach at USC in 2018. He began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant with the Washington beach volleyball program in 2018, also serving as a graduate manager for the Huskies' indoor volleyball team in 2016 and 2017. The Santa Monica native's first turn at coaching came as an assistant for the boys' and girls' varsity teams at La Jolla High School (2014-2016).

Barber played collegiately at UC San Diego, where he was an MPSF All-Academic selection in 2014. He graduated from UCSD with a bachelor's degree in environmental systems with a minor in political science from UCSD in 2015. Barber completed his master's degree in civil engineering at Washington in 2018.

"I'd like to thank the UCLA Athletic Department and Mike Sealy for the opportunity to return home to Los Angeles and work among some of the top student-athletes and coaches in the country," Barber said. "I'd also like to express my gratitude to (Cal Poly head coach) Caroline Walters and the rest of the Cal Poly team and staff. I am honored to be a part of the Bruin family and am excited to build upon the history of excellence at UCLA."
