Kramer's 10 Not Enough to Beat Huskies

LOS ANGELES - UCLA senior Gracie Kramer scored her first-ever perfect 10 on the floor exercise, but it wasn't enough for the No. 3 Bruins who fell to No. 11 Washington on Friday night, 196.700-196.250.
The Bruins (6-2) led by six-tenths halfway through the meet but lost their lead after a rough third rotation during which they had to count two falls on beam for a team total of 47.925. The Huskies (4-1), meanwhile surged ahead with a 49.350 on floor and held on to the lead by posting 49.250 on beam.
UCLA began the meet with a 49.275 on vault, taking a three-tenths lead over Washington, who scored 48.975 on uneven bars. The Bruins' back three of the lineup provided the meat of the scores, with Nia Dennis and Kyla Ross tying for first place with 9.9s and Felicia Hano hitting for a 9.875.
The Bruins hit six strong routines on uneven bars, scoring 49.425. Again, it was the back three pulling in the big scores, with Madison Kocian scoring 9.9 and Margzetta Frazier and Ross tying for first with 9.925s. Also contributing counting scores were Norah Flatley (9.850) and Savannah Kooyman (9.825). The Bruins extended their lead to six-tenths after the second rotation, 98.700-98.100.
Balance beam proved to be UCLA's downfall, as the Bruins had three falls and were forced to count a 9.05 and 9.10. A pair of 9.95s from Flatley and Ross helped minimize the damage, but UCLA's 47.875 dropped the Bruins to second, 0.875 behind the Huskies.
UCLA did its best to try to gain ground in the final rotation, scoring 49.675 on floor, led by Kramer's 10 and 9.95s from Flatley and Dennis. Ross added a 9.9, and Kocian and Hano contributed 9.875s to the team score.
"Feeling what happened with the team out on the floor, there are some key players on the team who are extremely motivated, and this is going to end up being fuel for what we do this coming week," said head coach Chris Waller. "I'm certain of it. It will just motivate us to figure out and fast track the ways in which we need to improve."
Ross won the all-around for the fifth-straight meet, scoring 39.675. She also tied for first on vault with Dennis, on bars with Frazier and on beam with Flatley. Kramer won her second floor title of the season.
UCLA returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 9 against Arizona at 2pm.
