Frazier Earns First-Ever Pac-12 Coaches’ Choice Award
January 08, 2020 | Gymnastics
UCLA's Margzetta Frazier has been selected as the first-ever recipient of the Pac-12 Gymnastics Coaches' Choice Award. The conference coaches nominate and vote on this award, which is given to a student-athlete for her strong performance and impact on the team.
Frazier, a sophomore from Sicklerville, N.J., placed fifth in her first-ever collegiate all-around appearance, scoring 39.475 in her debut. Frazier regularly competed on uneven bars and floor exercise as a freshman but saw action just three times on vault and did not compete on balance beam. She worked hard in the off-season to reinvent herself on beam, demonstrating a newfound skill and confidence that helped the Bruins overcome a shaky start on the event. With two falls already in the books when she stepped up to compete, she posted a score of 9.775 in her beam debut. Frazier was terrific on all four events at the Collegiate Challenge, posting UCLA's top mark on uneven bars with a 9.95, electrifying the crowd with a theatrical 9.925 on floor exercise and tying her career-best on vault with a 9.825.
Frazier joins teammate Kyla Ross (Gymnast of the Week) and Samantha Sakti (Specialist of the Week) as Pac-12 weekly award-winners for week one.
