PHILADELPHIA, Pa., -- A school-record 14 Bruins captured ACWPC All-Academic accolades, as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) today. The 14 players consist of freshmen Max Berg, Bernardo Maurizi, Gabe Discipulo, Tommy Gruwell, Cameron Reagan, redshirt freshman Will Morgan, sophomores Michael Graner and Jake Cavano, redshirt sophomore Bailey Jarvis, juniors Nicolas Saveljic, Levon Gukasyan, Felix Brozyna-Vilim, and seniors James Vlachonassios and Alex Wolf.
Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher in the current season. Athlete merit levels include "excellent" (3.2 to 3.4), "superior" 3.41 to 3.7 and "outstanding" 3.71 to 4.0.Berg, a freshman attacker from Seal Beach, Calif. (Long Beach Wilson HS), secured "outstanding" honors. He scored eight goals on the year with a season-high four goals coming in the MPSF Tournament win over Penn State Behrend (Nov. 22).
Maurizi, a freshman goalkeeper from Florence, Italy (Salesiani Firenze), also earned "outstanding" honors. He played a total of 6.5 games, making five starts. He tallied 78 saves on the year while sporting a goals against average of 6.90.
Discipulo, a freshman center from Santa Cruz, Calif. (Bellarmine College Preparatory), secured "superior" honors. He scored 15 goals on the year with a season-high five goals coming in the MPSF Tournament win over Penn State Behrend (Nov. 22).
Gruwell, a freshman attacker from San Diego, Calif. (Cathedral Catholic HS), earned "excellent" honors. He was fifth on the team in scoring with 26 goals on the year with a season-high four goals coming against No. 1 Stanford in the MPSF Tournament on Nov. 23.
Reagan, a freshman defender from Huntington Beach, Calif. (Mater Dei HS), also earned "excellent" honors. He scored eight goals on the year with a season-high-tying two goals coming against Fordham (Sept. 7) and Penn State Behrend (Nov. 22).
Morgan, a redshirt freshman attacker from Pebble Beach, Calif. (Stevenson School), secured "superior" honors. He scored three goals on the year, one each in wins over Fordham (Sept. 7), La Salle (Sept. 8), and CBU (Oct. 19).
Graner, a sophomore attacker from El Segundo, Calif. (Loyola HS), secured "outstanding" honors. He scored five goals on the year, including a season-high three goals in a win over Princeton (Sept. 7).
Cavano, a sophomore attacker/utility from Huntington Beach, Calif. (Huntington Beach HS) earned "excellent" honors. He led the Bruins in scoring with a career-high 42 goals on the year.
Jarvis, a redshirt sophomore defender from Walnut Creek, Calif. (Las Lomas HS), earned "superior" honors. He scored one goal on the year in a win over No. 7 California (Sept. 28).
Saveljic, a junior attacker from Kotor, Montenegro (Maritime School Kotor), secured "excellent" honors. He was fourth on the team in scoring with 31 goals, including a season-high five against No. 1 Stanford in the MPSF Tournament on Nov. 23.
Gukasyan, a junior utility from Glendale, Calif. (Clark Magnet HS), also secured "excellent" honors. He scored two goals on the year, both of which came in a win over Penn State Behrend in the MPSF Tournament on Nov. 22.
Brozyna-Vilim, a junior utility from Santa Monica, Calif. (Harvard-Westlake School), also earned "excellent" honors. He was third on the team in scoring with 33 goals, which included a season-high four goals in a win over No. 3 Pacific (Oct. 18) and against No. 20 CBU (Oct. 19).
Vlachonassios, a senior attacker from Huntington Beach, Calif. (Huntington Beach HS), also secured "excellent" honors. He scored one goal on the year in a win over Penn State Behrend in the MPSF Tournament on Nov. 22.
Wolf, a redshirt senior goalkeeper from Huntington Beach, Calif. (Huntington Beach HS), also secured "excellent" honors. He played a total of 15.6 games, making 17 starts. He tallied 179 saves on the year while sporting a goals against average of 9.00.
