Freshman Lexi Sosa of the UCLA softball team has been selected the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Mar. 2-8.
Sosa did it all last week to help the top-ranked Bruins to a 6-0 record, tossing 11 scoreless innings, including UCLA's first perfect game in a dozen years, while adding five runs batted in and her first collegiate home run at the plate. In the circle in three games, Sosa struck out 15 and gave up just two hits and three walks in her 11 frames of work, picking up a pair of wins. She struck out six in retiring all 15 batters she faced on Saturday against Boston U. to toss the Bruins' first perfect game since 2008. Sosa also added two hits and four RBI against the Terriers, recording a solo homer, a two-run single and an RBI grounder. The freshman had seven strikeouts in a two-hit shutout of St. John's on Tuesday and fanned two more in an inning of relief on Sunday versus Cal Poly, adding an RBI single against the Mustangs.
This is Sosa's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week award of the season and of her career.
