McNown to Be Inducted Into College FB Hall of Fame

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that Bruin quarterback Cade McNown (1995-98) is a member of the 2020 College Football Hall of Fame Class. McNown, who is the only Bruin to have thrown for at least 10,000 career yards, will become the 16th Bruin to enter the Hall of Fame.

McNown, who led the Bruins to the 1997 and 1998 Pac-10 championships, finished his career as the conference's career leader in total offense (11,285 yards) and was also third in career passing yardage (10,708 yards). He quarterbacked the Bruins to a school record 20 straight wins over the course of the 1997 and 1998 seasons, posting a 30-14 career record as a starter. Following the 1997 season, McNown helped to engineer a comeback win over Texas A&M in the 1998 Cotton Bowl while earning Offensive MVP honors. He finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting that year and led the nation in passing efficiency with a mark of 168.6 after completing over 61% of his passing attempts and throwing 24 touchdown passes against six interceptions.

In 1998, the Bruins posted a 10-2 record, which tied the school milestone for wins for the second straight season, and were voted the number one team in the nation in the first-ever Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Championship poll. In the 1999 Rose Bowl Game, McNown threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns as the Bruins set a single-team Rose Bowl record for most total yards (538). He still holds the UCLA career mark for the most passing yards in a game (513) versus Miami in 1998. McNown ranked among the nation's top 10 in both passing efficiency and total offense for the 1998 season while compiling 3,470 passing yards and 3,652 yards of total offense.

A consensus 1998 All-American, NcNown was named the Pac-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Year and the winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. He was selected as the Quarterback of the Year by the Quarterback Club of Washington, D.C., as well as, the Pop Warner Award recipient recognizing him as the top player on the West Coast for the 1998 campaign. McNown was also a Davey O'Brien Award finalist, third in the voting for the 1998 Heisman Trophy and went on to be chosen in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft, with the 12th overall pick, by the Chicago Bears. He played four seasons in the NFL with the Bears, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.

McNown is set to become the 16thย Bruin player or coach to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, joining Troy Aikman, Gary Beban, Randy Cross, Terry Donahue, Kenny Easley, Tom Fears, Billy Kilmer, Donn Moomaw, Jonathan Ogden, Tommy Prothro, Jerry Robinson, Red Sanders, John Sciarra, Al Sparlis and Kenny Washington. He is already a member of both the UCLA Athletics and Rose Bowl halls of fame.

McNown entered the financial sector after his football career, and he is currently a senior managing director for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors in Los Angeles where he is responsible for business development and client relations. He serves on the advisory board for West Coast Sports Associates and the board of directors for Friends of Golf while participating on various committees at the California Club. He has also volunteered at the California Showcase, an event sponsored by the NFF and headed by Coach Donahue that gives unsigned high school football players an opportunity to try out for divisional college football programs and earn scholarships.ย

The 2020 Class was selected from the national ballot of 76 players and five coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision, the 101 players and 33 coaches from the divisional ranks and the NFF Veterans Committee candidates.

The 2020 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 63rd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 8 at the New York Hilton Midtown. The inductees will also be recognized at their respective collegiate institutions with NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the fall. Their accomplishments will be forever immortalized at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
