No. 2 UCLA Picks Up Two More Sweeps

LOS ANGELESย -- No. 2ย UCLA (11-2) posted a pair of sweeps over Pac-12 teamsย on Sunday at the Pac-12 South Tournament at Mapes Beach. The Bruins opened the day with a 5-0 win over Oregonย and closed out the tournament with a 5-0ย win over Washington to go 4-0 on the weekend.
In the first dual against Oregon, the Bruins improved to 3-0 all-time against the Ducks. Freshman Lexi Denaburg and sophomore Lindsey Sparks put the Bruins up 1-0 with a straight-set win on court two over Oregon's Carly Wallace and Madelyn LaFollete, 21-9, 21-16. Then a new pairing of redshirt freshmen Jaden Whitmarsh and freshmanย Rileigh Powers defeated the Ducks' Zoe Almanza and Ansastasia Limaย on court four in straight sets, 23-21, 21-6, to put the Bruins up 2-0.ย Senior Savvy Simo and sophomore Abby Van Winkle sealed the dual victory on court one, defeating Oregon's Jade Sadeiko and Bea Wettonย in straight sets,ย 21-10, 21-7. Juniors Mac May and Megan Muretย made it 4-0 with a straight-set win on court five over the Ducks' Mia Lopez and Abby Hansen, 21-12, 21-5. Senior Lily Justine and junior Lea Monkhouse completed the sweepย with a straight-set win on court three over Oregon's Savannah Siegrist and Ally Haden, 21-19,ย 21-16.
Then in the final dual of the tournament, the Bruins improved to 7-0 all-time against the Huskies. Denaburg and Sparks again put the Bruins up 1-0 on court two with a straight-set win over UW's Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson, 21-15, 21-15. Another new pairing emerged on court four when Powers teamed with redshirt sophomore Hannah Phair to take down the Huskies' Scarlett Dahl and Claire Hoffman in straight sets, 21-14, 21-16. The Bruins' May and Muret defeated Washington's Callie Weber and Avie Niece on court five in straight sets, 21-11, 21-17, to seal the dual victory. Simo and Van Winkle immediately followed with a straight-set win on court one over UW's Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson, 21-16, 21-10. Then Justine and Monkhouse completed the sweep on court three with a straight-set win over the Huskies' Emma Calle and Addie Picha, 21-19, 21-14. In exhibition play on court six, UCLA redshirt sophomore.Cami Sanchez and graduate transfer Jacqueline Quadeย took down Washington's Kyra Petersen and Shannon Crenshaw in straight sets, 21-13, 21-10.
UCLA returns to action on Wednesday, March 11 when it travels to USC to take on the fifth-ranked Trojans at 2:00 p.m. PT and the ninth-ranked Pepperdine Waves at 4:00 p.m. PT at Merle Norman Stadium.
