
Bauer Featured in Rankings of Golden Spikes Seasons

Former UCLA standout right-hander Trevor Bauer was recognized in Baseball America's rankings of the best Golden Spikes seasons in college baseball history, it was revealed today.
Bauer's 2011 campaign, which resulted in him winning the first Golden Spikes Award in UCLA history, was ranked No. 17 overall and No. 6 among pitching seasons. The Golden Spikes Award is handed out annually by USA Baseball to the top amateur player in the country.
The Valencia, Calif. native's season was one for the record books. He went 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA over 16 starts, leading the country in both strikeouts (203) and complete games (10). Bauer also set the school record for single-season Ks and tied the program mark for single-season complete games, ending the season with nine consecutive CGs.
Following his award-winning junior season, Bauer was drafted No. 3 overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Currently a rotation member with the Cincinnati Reds, Bauer has a 70-60 record, 4.04 ERA, and 1,179 strikeouts over eight MLB seasons.ย
Florida State's Buster Posey (2008) topped the Baseball America rankings. The top-five was rounded out by Mark Kotsay (Cal State Fullerton, 1995), JD Drew (Florida State, 1997), Brendan McKay (Louisville, 2017), and Mark Prior (USC, 2001).
