May 26, 2020 | Track & Field

LOS ANGELES 10 members of UCLA's track & field team combined to earn 12 Indoor All-America accolades, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today.

Men's Honorees:
Kenroy Higgins II (60m), Riley Kelly (DMR), Chris Morzenti (DMR), Arturo Sotomayor (DMR), Ismail Turner (DMR)

Women's Honorees:
Shae Anderson (400m, 4x400m Relay), Catherine Leger (4x400m Relay), Makenzy Pierre-Webster (4x400m Relay), Meleni Rodney (4x400m Relay), Alyssa Wilson (Weight Throw, Shot Put)

The honors were presented today in spite of the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships in March. The NCAA Division I Track & Field Executive Committee adopted the following criteria for All-American distinction:
  • "Individual events: All student-athletes listed on the startlist for the anticipated event."
  • "Relay events: The four student-athletes per anticipated relay who produced the performance that was declared and accepted into their event. Those listed as alternatives will not be recognized."
  • "There will not be a distinction of 'first-team', 'second-team', or 'honorable mention' to these recognitions."

Student-Athlete Recognition
Higgins II entered the NCAA Indoor Championships with the seventh-fastest time in the nation at 6.59. The sophomore clocked the time to take second place at the MPSF Indoor Championships and set a new school record in the event.

Anderson had an historic debut season with the Bruins after transferring to UCLA from Oregon. She broke the UCLA indoor 400m record twice and entered the National Championships with a time of 52.07. The time at altitude was converted to 52.18, the ninth-ranked mark in the nations.

Wilson was set to make her third-straight appearance and indoor nationals as she continued to etch her name all over the UCLA record books. She recorded the second-best weight throw mark in the nation at 22.98m (75-04.75), a school-record launch she posted at the Don Kirby Invite. She also entered the NCAA Championships with the No. 8 national mark in the shot put as she threw 17.43m (57-02.25) for the event victory at the UW Indoor Preview.

The Bruins had an historic year on the relay side. The women's 4x400m squad originally notched the No. 2 indoor mark in school history (3:33.98) at the Don Kirby Invite and later topped that performance with an indoor school-record time of 3:30.28 at the MPSF Championships. UCLA was one of two teams to break the Dempsey Indoor facility record at the league indoor championships and entered the national meet with the fifth-best time in the nation. The men's DMR notched a time of 9:32.42 at the Alex Wilson Invitational to qualify for the NCAA Championships. It was the third-fastest time in school history.
