SAN FRANCISCO โ Five members of the UCLA men's tennis team were named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.
Junior Connor Hance and sophomores Eric Hahn, Govind Nanda, Mathew Tsolakyan and Patrick Zahraj earned the first Pac-12 All-Academic selections of their careers. Any student-athlete on his or her respective team roster with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above, and who has served at least one year in residence at the institution, is eligible for recognition.
Hance, a business economics major, continues to shine in the classroom. A seven-time member of the UCLA Athletic Director's Honor Roll, he was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2019. Hance went 6-3 in singles play (2-1 in dual matches) during the shortened season, including a clinching win versus BYU in the dual-season opener. He also posted one doubles victory each with partners Ben Goldberg and Blaine Hovenier.
Hahn (business economics) registered eight singles wins, including a dual-match triumph in the Bruins' shutout of Western Michigan in Chicago. He also knocked off 75th-ranked Barnaby Smith of Texas A&M, 6-2, 6-0, to reach the singles Round of 16 at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup and reached the A Flight doubles final round at the Aztec Fall Invitational with partner Max Wild. Hahn is a four-time member of the AD's Honor Roll.
Nanda (undeclared) was named the ITA Southwest Region Player to Watch after reaching career highs of No. 10 and No. 24 in the ITA singles and doubles rankings, respectively. He went 13-4 in singles play (10-3), including a 7-3 mark against nationally-ranked players. Nanda beat No. 9 Mor Bulis of USC, 6-0, 6-3, to earn a spot in the singles semifinal round at Sherwood. Nanda played exclusively with Keegan Smith in doubles play and the pair clinched a team-high five doubles points. They finished the season with a 12-4 record (9-3). Nanda has qualified for the AD's Honor Roll three times.
A member of the UCLA All-Academic Team as holder of his team's highest cumulative GPA, Tsolakyan (business economics) has been named to the AD's Honor Roll on four occasions. On the court, he won all six singles dual matches he played. Tsolakyan logged a pair of three-set wins in UCLA's conference play-opening road sweep of Washington and Oregon.
Zahraj (undeclared), a four-time member of the AD's Honor Roll and 2019 ITA Scholar-Athlete, posted an 8-4 singles record (4-2) and a 9-6 doubles mark (7-4). He defeated No. 105 Noah Schachter of Texas A&M in three sets at Sherwood and clinched a pair of doubles points with partner Bryce Pereira. The pair picked up a 7-6(1) winner-take-all result in the Bruins' 4-3 win versus UCF in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend final round.
