Oyster Wins NWSL Challenge Cup with Houston Dash
July 26, 2020 | Women's Soccer
UCLA alumna Megan Oyster helped lead the Houston Dash to the NWSL Challenge Cup Championship on July 26. The Dash defeated the Chicago Red Stars in the championship match, 2-0, to capture their first NWSL trophy.
Oyster, who had the game-winning assist in UCLA's 2013 NCAA Championship victory, added another title to her collection, starting for the Dash in Sunday's game despite suffering a rib fracture in the quarterfinal. Playing at center back, Oyster played a pivotal role inkeeping the Red Stars off the board for the full 90 minutes.
Zoey Goralski, who played with Oyster both at UCLA and at Neuqua Valley High School, entered the game in the 67th minute for Chicago.
UCLA led all universities with 15 alumnae playing in the Challenge Cup.
The NWSL was the first professional league to resume play this summer, returning June 27 in an eight-team, 23-game tournament in Utah. The league reported no positive COVID-19 tests during the tournament.
