Thompson-Robinson Selected to Preseason Manning Award List

NEW ORLEANS - The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced on Thursday that UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was included on its preseason Watch List. The list features the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2020 season. The winner will be selected by a voting panel, which includes national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls.

Thompson-Robinson ranked among the top 10 single-season performers in UCLA history with his 21 touchdown passes (10th), 2899 yards of total offense (10th) and 216 completions (9th) in the 2019 campaign. While leading the Bruins back from a 32-point deficit late in the third quarter at Washington State last season, he set a school record with 564 yards of total offense, which included 507 yards passing (third on the all-time school list).ย The Bruin signal-caller ranked 34th in the NCAA, fourth in the Pac-12, in total offense per game (263.5 yards) and 31st nationally and fifth in the conference in passing yards per game (245.5). Thompson-Robinson also ran for at least 35 yards in seven games in 2019. He joins Josh Rosen, Cade McNown and Brett Hundley as the only Bruin quarterbacks to achieve multiple 400-yard total offense games for their careers. His 431 yards of total offense against USC rates as the second-most ever by a Bruin in a battle versus the Trojans.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.

Thirteen of the 16 Manning Award winners won bowl games during the season they won the honor. Eleven Manning Award honorees led their teams to the CFP Semifinals or a BCS Championship game appearance. Seven won national championships. In addition to the Manning Award's yearly honor, each week during the regular season, eight quarterbacks are recognized as Manning Quarterbacks of the Week. Seventy-one players from 65 different schools were honored during the 2019 season and 377 different quarterbacks from 127 schools have been recognized since 2011.
