Women's Volleyball
UCLA Volleyball legend Karch Kiraly led the U.S. Women's Volleyball team to its first-ever Olympic gold medal, sweeping Brazil in the final. The U.S. went 4-1 in pool play and ran through the knockout stage with three-set sweeps, beating Dominican Republic in the quarterfinals and Serbia in the semifinals before avenging the 2012 Olympic final loss to Brazil.
Kiraly has coached the U.S. women to three Olympic medals, winning gold in 2020 and bronze in 2016 as a head coach and silver in 2012 as an assistant coach. As a player, he won two indoor volleyball gold medals in 1984 and 1988 and captured gold on the beach in 1996 with Kent Steffes and remains the only player to win gold medals in both volleyball events.
Also serving on the USA Volleyball staff with Kiraly was former UCLA softball head coach Sue Enquist, who won 11 national championships as a Bruin player and coach.
Men's Water Polo
Team USA dropped its final contest of the Tokyo Olympic Games on Sunday, falling to Croatia 14-11 to finish in sixth place.
Max Irving was in the starting lineup for the eighth straight game and scored two goals on two shots vs. Croatia to tie for the scoring lead with four other teammates in the game. He also added one steal in just over 17 minutes of playing time. Reserve goalkeeper Alex Wolf did not play.
