LOS ANGELES โ Redshirt senior quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for 235 yards in the air and rushed for 93 yards on the ground in No. 20 UCLA's 42-23 loss to Arizona State at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night.

After the Bruins (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12) trimmed the Sun Devils' (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) lead to just a point, 24-23, as time in the first half expired, Arizona State outscored UCLA 18-0 in the second half. The Bruins ran 83 plays compared to the Sun Devils' 51, but Arizona State scored in flashes with three touchdown plays of 40-plus yards.

Redshirt junior Kyle Philips was the beneficiary of Thompson-Robinson's touchdown throw, marking Philips' fourth consecutive game finding paydirt. Redshirt junior tight end Greg Dulcich led the Bruins with nine catches for 136 yards, averaging 15.1 yards per catch. Junior running back Zach Charbonnet rushed for 89 yards on 21 carries.

The Sun Devils' first score of the second half came on a 49-yard touchdown rush by running back DeaMonte Trayanum. Their score in the fourth quarter was a one-yard rush by running back Rachaad White to cap off Arizona State's longest drive of the game for 6:52.

The two teams traded field goals for their first points of the game. UCLA's three points came off the boot of redshirt sophomore kicker Nicholas Barr-Mira, who nailed a career-long 48-yard field goal on the first drive of the game.

An eight-yard scramble by Thompson-Robinson and a 21-yard carry by Charbonnet put the Bruins in the redzone for the first time of the night as time ran out in the first quarter. On the first play of the second period, Thompson-Robinson located his target junior wide receiver Kyle Philips for a four-yard touchdown โ Philips' sixth of the year.

Thompson-Robinson and Philips connected on the Bruin offense's next play from scrimmage with a 24-yard pass to open their next touchdown drive of the first half. Again, Thompson-Robinson made a play with his legs to put UCLA inside the Arizona State 20 following a 35-yard run up the middle. Redshirt senior running back Brittain Brown capped the drive by stretching his arms over the goal line. Brown finished the night with 33 yards on 11 carries.

Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels answered both UCLA scores with two 50-plus-yard plays to wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. The first, a 65-yard screen pass, and the second, a 54-yard heave to give the Sun Devils' the lead for the remainder of the game.

Arizona State returner D.J. Taylor muffed his reception of the Bruins' last punt before the end of the first half. Junior long snapper Jack Landherr IV promptly pancaked Taylor as redshirt sophomore linebacker Kain Medrano recovered, leading to another Barr-Mira field goal.

Barr-Mira nailed three of his four field goal attempts from 48, 21 and 26 yards.

UCLA will travel to Tucson, Ariz., next Saturday on Oct. 9 for a 7:30 p.m. PT kickoff against the Arizona Wildcats (0-4, 0-1 Pac-12).
