The No. 7 UCLA men's volleyball team served up a season-high nine aces in a sweep of Concordia University Irvine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match played on Thursday night in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Scores of the contest were 25-22, 25-19, 25-16. Cole Ketrzynskiย registered a career-best five aces while Ethan Champlin added three more for the Bruins who hit .338 on the night. Merrick McHenry posted a .500 hitting percentage for the match with a season-high 11 kills as UCLA improvedย to 5-2 on the season.ย The same two teams will square offย again on Saturday night in Irvine.

After CUI grabbed the early lead in the first set, at 3-5, UCLA rallied behind the serve ofย Ketrzynski to take a 7-5 advantage. The Bruins used a pair of aces fromย Champlin, to increaseย their margin to 10-6. A Champlin kill made it 16-12. The third ace of the set by Champlin pushed UCLA in front by 19-14. The Eagles ran off four straight points to slice the gap to 21-19. A series of service errors and a Ketrzynski kill provided UCLA a 24-21 lead. A CUI service error handed the Bruins set point forย a 25-22 win.

In set two, UCLA fell behind early before going on a run to earn a 7-4 advantage on a Ketrzynski kill. McHenry's kill made it 10-7. CUI closed to 14-12 before the Bruins ran off three straight to up the gap to 17-12 after a Sam Kobrine kill. Another McHenry swing made it 22-16. Kevin Kobrine ended the set with a kill for a 25-19 decision. UCLA hit .323 for the frame.

McHenry's kill ended the set and match at 25-16. UCLA hit .500.
