The Bruins (8-3) frittered away a big lead in set one to drop the opener. Arizona (4-7) jumped ahead 7-2, but UCLA rallied with a 9-2 run to go up by a pair. Jacobs had four kills during the run, McCall added two, Smith had a kill and teamed up with Ndiaye on a block and May and redshirt junior Emily Ryan got a combo roof to make it 11-9. At 13-12, a 7-2 Bruin run on kills from Ryan, Jacobs, May and McCall, a Lane ace and two Arizona errors brought the lead to a set-best six at 20-14. The Bruins still led by three at 24-21, but the Wildcats netted the final five points to steal the first. Jacobs had five kills in the opener, McCall was 4-for-9 with no errors and Ndiaye was 3-for-4 with no miscues. Fleck added eight digs and May posted three kills. The Bruins were out-hit .341 to .262.
The score was tied at one early in set two, and that was the closest Arizona would be for the remainder of the second, as UCLA never trailed to even the match. At 6-4 Bruins, a Jacobs kill, a McCall solo block and kill and three Wildcat errors during a 6-1 run made it a seven-point lead. The Wildcats got their deficit down to two at 13-11, but the Bruins rallied with a 10-3 run to open up a set-best advantage of nine at 23-14. May had three of the points on a kill and back-to-back aces, Dodson chipped in with a kill and a solo block and Smith and Jacobs also added kills. A Smith kill on the Bruins' third set point closed out a 25-18 win. The Bruin offense was spread around, as Jacobs had three kills and four others had two each. Fleck and Lane both posted four digs. The Bruins out-hit the Wildcats .182 to .108.
The third set was a close one, as UCLA's largest lead was only four, while Arizona's was three. Trailing 18-15, back-to-back kills from May and a pair of Dodson combo blocks, first with Jacobs and then with May, put UCLA up by one. Arizona netted the next two, but the Bruins rallied with three in a row on a pair of Jacobs kills and a block with Dodson to go ahead 22-20. The Wildcats scored the next two to tie things up, but back-to-back McCall kills and an Arizona attack error gave the Bruins a 25-22 win. May posted six kills and four digs in the third, Fleck recorded six digs, McCall added five kills, Dodson had four blocks and Jacobs notched three kills. The Bruins out-hit the Wildcats .214 to .105.
The Bruins raced out to a 12-5 lead in set three, as May tallied three kills, Lane and Pak both had aces and Ndiaye, Jacobs and McCall also posted kills. Arizona came back with its own rally of five in a row to tie the score, and then took as much as a three-point edge at 16-13 and 19-16. Down 21-20, back-to-back McCall kills put the Bruins up by one at 22-21. The next four points were sided out, with the Bruins earning a match point, but it was saved. Another one was awarded following a May kill, but Arizona saved number two. Another May kill gave the Bruins a third match point and it was cashed in on a Dodson/May block to wrap up a 27-25 win. McCall was 6-for-11 with no errors in the fourth, adding five digs, May had five kills and Fleck posted seven digs. The Bruins out-hit the Wildcats .314 to .222.
