Rachel Garcia Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - Senior Rachel Garcia was named Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after throwing the second no-hitter of her career last Friday against Oregon State.
In her only appearance of the weekend, Garcia struck out 12 in seven innings to toss the 115th no-no in UCLA history. Garcia had 1-2-3 frames in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, fanning the side in the seventh and two each in the first, fourth and fifth. Her only baserunners allowed came on a first-inning hit by pitch and walk, a third-inning free pass and a seventh-inning walk. Garcia was also 3-for-8 (.375) at the plate with three RBI in the Bruins' sweep of the Beavers.
It is the second week in a row Garcia has been honored by the Pac-12 after earning Player of the Week accolades on April 12 following the series at Oregon. She was also conference Pitcher of the Week on March 23 after the Arizona State series, as her career total grows to a school-record 13 Pitcher of the Week awards to go with her three Player of the Week plaudits. Maya Brady also received honors on March 23 when she was named Pac-12 Player and Freshman of the Week.
The second-ranked Bruins take on No. 4 Washington this weekend for a four-game series. The first contest will be Friday at 7 p.m., live on Pac-12 Network.
