Thompson-Robinson Named to Maxwell Watch List

The Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday that UCLA quarterbackย Dorian Thompson-Robinsonย has been named to its watch list for the 85th Maxwell Award. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football.

Thompson-Robinson is coming off a season in which he posted a pass efficiency rating of 156.29 which was the highest by a Bruin starting quarterback since 2005. He became the first Bruin to rush for at least 100 yards (109) and pass for at least 300 yards (303) in the same game (at Colorado). Thompson-Robinson completed 30 of his 36 passing attempts against USC last season for an .833 completion percentage which was the highest mark by any Bruin signal caller in a game with at least 30 passing attempts. The senior threw for a season-high 4 touchdowns in games against both Colorado and USC. He rushed for 306 yards on the season with a 5.6 yards per attempt mark. The league coaches named him to the second-team All-Pac-12 squad.
In 2019, Thompson-Robinson set a school record with 564 yards of total offense in a come-from-behind win at Washington State. He joins Josh Rosen, Cade McNown and Brett Hundley as the only Bruins to record multiple 400-yard total offense games for their careers. Thompson-Robinson enters the 2021 season among the Top 10 at UCLA in career passing yards (9th-5,132 yards), career completions (7th-418 completions) and career total offense (7th-5,704 yards).

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert "Tiny" Maxwell, a former standout at the Swarthmore College and a renowned sports writer and football official.ย Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 1, 2021, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled November 22, 2021. The winner of the 2021 Maxwellย Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 9, 2021. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 11, 2022.
