Men's Tennis Falls in Kickoff Weekend Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas โ The No. 23 UCLA men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to host No. 19 Texas A&M in ITA Kickoff Weekend action Saturday at Mitchell Tennis Center.
With the Bruins nearing victories on two singles courts, the Aggies completed their shutout. Guido Marson clinched the win for Texas A&M. Three matches went to third sets, but just one was completed. Patrick Zahraj of UCLA led by a 7-6, 6-5 score when the match was called.
The Bruins (1-1) will next face Texas Tech (3-1) in Sunday's consolation match (12 p.m. PT). The Aggies will take on No. 12 Arizona (5-1) for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the same time.
Pitted against the nation's 35th-ranked pair of Austin Abbrat and Noah Schachter on the top court, Alexander Hoogmartens and Bryce Pereira of UCLA dropped the first decision of the day by a 6-3 score. As Zahraj and Giacomo Revelli inched closed to victory on Court 2, their hopes were dashed by the result on Court 3, where Giulio Perego and Raphael Perot knocked off Drew Baird and Max Wild by another 6-3 score.
In singles play, the 115th-ranked Schachter doubled the Texas A&M lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win versus Baird on Court 1. Next off was Court 4, where Matthis Ross took a three-set decision from Revelli on Court 4, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. With two other matches each a game from completion, Marson outlasted No. 96 Stefan Leustian on Court 5, 7-5, 6-4.
