Luper Scores 17 Kills in 3-1 Loss to Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Outside hitter Charitie Luper registered a match-high 17 kills in the UCLA women's volleyball team's 3-1 loss to Colorado (23-25, 25-18, 15-25, 24-26) at the CU Events Center Friday night. It was the fifth time this season Luper scored 15-plus kills in a match which is good for best on the squad.
Freshman Cheridyn Leverette eclipsed double-digit kill numbers for the first time in her career with 13 kills at a .219 clip. Leverette also accounted for two solo blocks.
The Bruins (10-10, 4-7 Pac-12) hit for 53 kills at .149 compared to the Buffaloes' (14-7, 6-5 Pac-12) 55 kills at .199. Colorado's Maya Tabron, Lexi Hadrych and Meegan Hart each recorded double-digit kills.
Matti McKissock tallied a team-high 38 assists and a career-high 20 digs. McKissock's former career high was 16 which came against Penn State as a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 2021.
UCLA dug itself out of a 5-0 hole to begin the match with a 5-0 run of its own, capped off by back-to-back kills by Anna Dodson. Dodson, who competed in her first match since Oct. 16 versus Oregon, finished with 11 kills and three block assists tonight.
Colorado jumped ahead with another big run, 13-7. The Bruins clawed back, facing five consecutive set points before seeing their comeback thwarted by a Hadrych kill to win the first set.
The Bruins trailed 10-8 in the second set before a 4-0 run with back-to-back kills by Luper gave them a lead they would hold onto for the remainder of the frame. Leverette led the Bruins' scoring in the second set going 5-for-7 on her swings with a block.
Next Up: The Bruins close their weekend series at Utah on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. PT in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Utes (13-9, 6-5 Pac-12) defeated No. 24 USC in a sweep tonight behind 17 kills from Madelyn Robinson.
