UCLA Softball Announces Expanded Archives

December 01, 2022 | Softball

The UCLA Athletic Communications staff has completed phase one of its two-part project to expand the UCLA softball program's statistical archives. Now, every single box score since the program was sanctioned by the NCAA in 1982 is available to fans and media in a matter of seconds.

This five-month long project was led by Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for softball Vinny Lavalsiti with the help of sports information interns, Micaiah Lee, Gladys Eggers and Alex Diamant.

"With this information, we will be able to expand UCLA softball's record book to include some very important additions," Lavalsiti said. "A program loaded with rich postseason tradition such as UCLA softball, the winningest program in the history of the sport, should have a list of postseason records. It should have a list of freshman records. We should know if someone – if any of our 39 NFCA First Team All-Americans – has ever hit for the cycle. Now, we have access to that information at our fingertips. This will allow for me to better tell the stories and successes of our student-athletes and for fans to better understand their greatness."

All box scores can be located on the "Box Scores Archives" tab on uclabruins.com/softball, or by following this link. Box scores are separated by season in PDF format, beginning with 2022 and ending with 1982. After each season, this page will be updated to include the next round of box scores.

At the top of the page, there are links to PDFs to every UCLA postseason box score and every UCLA Women's College World Series box score for fans and media's convenience.

"Phase two of this project involves putting all of these newfound records into one place," Lavalsiti said. "The goal is to have this information included in the upcoming 2023 UCLA Softball Information Guide."

He will be constructing both a UCLA postseason and WCWS record book to include the following:
