ย
DALLAS (FWAA)ย โ UCLA'sย Zach Charbonnetย was named on Friday to the first team of the 2022 Football Writer's Association of America Team, presented in partnership by the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. The Bruin running back was chosen as the all-purpose player on the squad.
ย
Charbonnet leads the nation in all-purpose yards this season with a 168.0 yards per game average. He is also fourth in the nation in rushing yards per game average (135.9) and rushing yards per carry average (6.97). All three figures place him at the top of the Pac-12 Conference listings.
ย
The senior has racked up eight 100-yard rushing games this season, topped by a pair of 198-yard performances in wins against Utah and Stanford and has a chance to equal the school record of nine for a season held by Johnathan Franklin. His total of 1,359 rushing yards (15th in nation) this season has made Charbonnet the ninth Bruin to record back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons. He is just the second player in UCLA history to record at least 150 yards rushing over three straight games (also Karim Abdul-Jabbar in 1995). Charbonnet is also third on the team in 2022 in receptions with 37 for 321 yards.
ย
Earlier this season, Charbonnet was a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award and the Walter Camp Foundation Player of the Year Award. He was a first-team selection by the Pac-12 coaches for the all-conference team.
ย
UCLA will conclude the 2022 season by playing Pitt on Friday, Dec. 30 at 11:00 a.m. PT in the 89th annual Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. CBS will televise the contest.
