Bruins Edged by OSU, 8-7, to Close Out Pac-12 Tournament

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. โ No. 2 seed Oregon State plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to claim an 8-7 walk-off win over No. 3 seed UCLA in Saturday night's Pac-12 Tournament divisional final.
The game-winning hit, a two-run Jacob Melton single, capped off an unforgettable day of baseball at Scottsdale Stadium. The Bruins (38-22) had previously forced a re-match with the Beavers (44-14) after posting a 25-22 victory on Saturday afternoon, eliminating a nine-run deficit in the ninth inning before winning it on a three-run Tommy Beres homer in the ninth.
UCLA overcame a large deficit to take the lead in the nightcap as well, falling behind 5-0 by the end of the second but rallying to score seven of the game's next eight runs. The Bruins led, 7-6, for two innings before OSU rallied in the ninth.
The Bruins were led offensively by sophomore second baseman Daylen Reyes (3-5, two runs) and junior right fielder Michael Curialle (2-5, triple, two RBIs).
UCLA made its biggest charge of the game in the seventh, putting together a four-spot to take their first lead of the contest. Curialle sparked that rally, driving a liner the opposite way that got all the way to the wall after the OSU right fielder tried to field it on a short-hop. The miscue allowed Curialle to reach third and scored Reyes, who had led off with an infield single.
Another run came across later on a Kyle Karros sac fly, but the Bruins continued to rally as Darius Perry, Carson Yates, and Jack Holman all lined singles to drive in the game-tying and go-ahead runs.
UCLA used five pitchers in the game, with only Luke Jewett throwing more than one inning. The Ladera Ranch, Calif. native went a career-long four frames, giving up just one run while striking out four.
Senior Jake Moberg also made his collegiate pitching debut, working around a pair of walks to record a scoreless inning. He also froze the first batter he faced โ Jake Dukart โ with a nasty curveball for his first-career strikeout.
