UCLA Athletics Honors Graduating Student-Athletes

June 10, 2022 | General, Bruin Athletics

LOS ANGELES – A total of 158 UCLA graduating student-athletes and team members were honored in an on-campus UCLA Student-Athlete Graduation Celebration on Thursday, June 9. Among the participants in the ceremony in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom were student-athletes who graduated in the 2022 Winter and Spring quarters, as well as those who are projected to graduate in Summer and Fall 2022.

Several UCLA standout scholar-athletes were recognized at the event, including UCLA Scholar-Athletes of the Year Sarah Coufal (Women's Rowing) and Artin Allahverdian (Men's Cross Country).

Sara Taubman of the gymnastics program and J.R. Norris IV of the men's volleyball team served as senior class speakers during the ceremony in Pauley Pavilion.

The Rose Gilbert Courage and Character Award, recognizing student-athletes who have met challenges with courage and resiliency, was awarded to Simar Singh (Women's Golf) and Zaylon Thomas (Men's Track and Field).

The Maggie Gilbert Academic Achievement Award was presented to Claire Grover (Swimming and Diving) and Michael Ezeike (Football). These recipients are honored for the relentless perseverance and commitment to their academic endeavors, as their hard work and determination have allowed them to excel in the classroom.

Four UCLA student-athletes were honored with the Bruin Leadership Award – Sara Taubman (Gymnastics), Sophie Clarkowski (Swimming and Diving), Elisha Guidry (Football) and Jake Cavano (Men's Water Polo). These recipients have distinguished themselves, going above and beyond the call of duty to make a significant impact within the UCLA student-athlete experience.

In addition, Guidry and Maddie Musselman (Women's Water Polo) were honored with the Academic and Student-Services Success Award. The mission of UCLA's Academic and Student Services (AS2) unit is to empower student-athletes to maximize their educational experience as they pursue their academic and personal goals. The award reflects the mission of AS2 by recognizing student-athletes who are self-sufficient learners and who have embodied John Wooden's definition of "success."

A total of 23 student-athletes were recognized as part of UCLA's All-Academic Team, having compiled the highest cumulative GPA on their respective teams. Those individuals included Tommy Beres (Baseball), Russell Stong (Men's Basketball), Hudson Habermehl (Football), Zhourui Feng (Men's Golf), Tommy Silva (Men's Soccer), Timothy Li (Men's Tennis), Artin Allahverdian (Men's Track and Field), Keaton Heisterman (Men's Cross Country), Miles Partain (Men's Volleyball), Gianpiero Di Martire (Men's Water Polo), Emily Bessoir (Women's Basketball), Yuki Yoshihara (Women's Golf), Samantha Sakti (Gymnastics), Clara Kennedy (Rowing), Jaclyn Gilday (Women's Soccer), Delanie Wisz (Softball), Abby Van Winkle (Beach Volleyball), Nora Clarkowski (Swimming and Diving), Vanessa Ong (Women's Tennis), Kaitlyn Menichetti (Women's Track and Field), Anne Werner (Women's Cross Country), Skylar Canady (Women's Volleyball) and Alex Peros (Women's Water Polo).
