Thompson-Robinson Tabbed for O'Brien Watch List
July 19, 2022 | Football
The Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Tuesday that UCLA's Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been selected to the 2022 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List, a group that includes 35 of the nation's top returning college quarterbacks. Compiled by a subset of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee, this year's list was selected based on career player performance and expectations heading into the upcoming college football season.
Last season, Thompson-Robinson led the Pac-12 in pass efficiency rating (153.9), total offense (274.4 yards/g), points responsible for (182), passing yards per completion (13.69) and passing yards per pass attempt (8.51). He also rated No. 10 in the Pac-12 in rushing yards per game (55.36). Thompson-Robinson has moved into the Top Five at UCLA in career passing yards, career completions and career TD passes. He totaled over 300 yards of offense in games against Fresno State (345), Arizona State (330), Colorado (355) and USC (395). In that USC contest, he ran for two scores and passed for four more. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 by the Associated Press.
In 2020, Thompson-Robinson posted a pass efficiency rating of 156.29 which was the highest by a Bruin starting quarterback since 2005. He became the first Bruin to rush for at least 100 yards (109) and pass for at least 300 yards (303) in the same game (at Colorado). Thompson-Robinson completed 30 of his 36 passing attempts against USC that season for an .833 completion percentage which was the highest mark by any Bruin signal caller in a game with at least 30 passing attempts. He tossed a season-high four touchdowns in games against both Colorado and USC. Thompson-Robinson rushed for 306 yards on the season with a 5.6 yards per attempt average. The league coaches named him to the second-team All-Pac-12 squad.
In 2019, Thompson-Robinson established a new school record with 564 yards of total offense in a come-from-behind win at Washington State. He joined Josh Rosen, Cade McNown and Brett Hundley as the only Bruins to record multiple 400-yard total offense games for their careers.
