Junior outside hitter Ethan Champlin earned Player of the Week honors on Monday after his performance in leading UCLA to three victories at the season-opening UCSB Asics Tournament in Santa Barbara. Champlin was tabbed as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF)/Molten Offensive Player of the Week and offtheblockblog.com National Outside Attacker of the Week.
 
Champlin connected for a match-high 12 kills in the season-opening win over CSUN last Thursday. He had zero errors on 17 swings against the Matadors for a .706 hitting percentage. Champlin added two aces, five digs and a block assist. In Saturday's win over No. 7 UC Santa Barbara, he recorded a match-high 10 kills while hitting .500 for the match. He added three aces, five digs as well as a block solo and block assist.
 
UCLA held its No. 2 national ranking in Monday's first regular season AVCA Coaches Poll. The Bruins will begin a homestand by hosting Princeton on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the John Wooden Center. UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 20) and UC San Diego (Jan. 21) then head to Westwood the following week for non-conference matches in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
