Jaquez Jr. Named to Wooden Award Midseason Watch List

January 04, 2023 | Men's Basketball

LOS ANGELES โ€“ UCLA senior Jaime Jaquez Jr. has been named as one of 25 players to the midseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award, as announced on Wednesday evening.
ย
Jaquez Jr., a 6-foot-7 guard/forward from Camarillo, Calif., has scored in double figures in all 15 games for UCLA this season. In addition to leading the team in scoring (17.2 points per game), Jaquez Jr. has averaged 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He has helped lead UCLA to a 13-2 overall record, as the Bruins have won their last 10 games.
ย
Players on the midseason list are considered strong candidates for the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's. Players not chosen to the preseason or midseason lists are still eligible for the Wooden Award's national ballot.
ย
The Wooden Award's national ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 student-athletes when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament, allowing voters to take into consideration performance during early round games.
ย
The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced the week of the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight. The Wooden Award winner will be presented by Wendy's following the NCAA Tournament in April.
ย
No. 10-ranked UCLA (13-2, 4-0 Pac-12) will return to action at home against USC (11-4, 3-1 Pac-12) this Thursday evening in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Game time is 6:30 p.m. (PT). UCLA's game against USC will be nationally televised by ESPN.
