CARY, N.C. – Freshman Ahmani Guichard earned the first two wins of her collegiate career at the ITA All-American Championships, where the UCLA women's tennis team rang in the fall portion of its 2023-24 campaign.
Also in action at Cary Tennis Park were sophomore Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and junior Elise Wagle.
All three student-athletes were in the singles prequalifying draw. Guichard debuted with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Duke's Katie Codd, while Wagle got the best of Miami's (FL) Audrey Boch-Collins by a 6-1, 7-5 count. Lutkemeyer was outlasted by Kinaa Graham of LSU in a 7-5, 7-6(6) result, but the Bruin later got a chance to bounce back in doubles play.
Guichard's 6-4, 6-3 showing opposite Camille Kiss of UC Santa Barbara put the Seminole, Fla. native one win away from the qualifying stage, but she was ultimately felled by Oklahoma's Ava Catanzarite in a marathon 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 decision.
Wagle saw her time in singles play stopped by Qavia Lopez of Florida, who picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in the second round. Wagle bounced back alongside Lutkemeyer when doubles matches kicked off the next day, though. The pair stormed to an 8-2 triumph over Briana Crowley and Ava Hrastar of Ole Miss in the first round of qualifying. The UCLA tandem was defeated the next day by the nation's No. 43 team of NC State's Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo, 8-5.
UCLA continues tournament play Oct. 19 at the ITA Regional Championships in San Diego.
