Chiles Wins Three Medals at Pan American Games

Jordan Chiles will return from Chile with three medals at the Pan American Games. Chiles won a medal of each color, earning gold in the team competition, silver on vault and bronze in the all-around.

The 2020 Olympian and 11-time National Team member led the U.S. to team gold on Oct. 22, the sixth consecutive Pan American Games championship for the United States. The team posted an overall score of 165.196 to outscore silver medalist Brazil by nearly four points (161.564). Canada took the bronze medal with a score of 154.230. Chiles posted the top all-around score in the qualifying competition, totaling 54.666. She also had the top American score on vault (14.099) and the second-best U.S. mark on uneven bars (14.100) to qualify to the event finals.

In the all-around final on Oct. 23, Chiles captured the bronze medal with a score of 53.999, seven-tenths of a point behind all-around champion and teammate Kayla DiCello, who scored 54.699. Brazil's Flavia Saraiva placed second with a 54.565. Chiles posted a meet-high 14.300 on vault and had the No. 2 scores on both balance beam (13.466) and floor exercise (13.533).

Chiles finished her competition on Oct. 24 with the vault and uneven bars finals. On vault, she earned a silver medal with two strong vaults, scoring 14.400 on a double-twisting Yurchenko full (9.400 execution score) and 13.900 on a Lopez for an average of 14.150. Her score was bested only by Olympic and World champion Rebeca Andrade, who scored 15.333 on a near-perfect Cheng and 14.633 on a double-twisting Yurchenko for a 14.983 average. Chiles finished seventh on uneven bars with a score of 12.400.

Chiles has had a successful 2023, winning NCAA titles on uneven bars and floor exercise in April and earning six All-America honors, while being named the WCGA West Region Gymnast of the Year and the College Gym News Sportswoman of the Year. She finished fifth in the all-around at the U.S. Championships in August and was fourth on uneven bars at the Core Hydration Classic. ย
