Women's Rowing Wins the Head of the American

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The UCLA women's rowing program had a very strong showing at the Head of the American on Saturday on Lake Natoma in the Bruins' only fall competition.
UCLA registered first-place finishes in the two major collegiate events on Saturday. The Bruins finished in first and third place in the women's collegiate 2-, while the Bruins' varsity eight raced to a first-place finish in the women's collegiate 8+. Seniors Rosemary Varney and Polly Wenlock posted a time of 19:51.4 to take first place in the women's collegiate 2-. Graduate students Ella Harris and Olivia Caesar registered a bronze-medal finish in the women's collegiate 2- for UCLA.
UCLA's varsity eight crew registered a final racing time of 16:49.40 to take first place in the women's collegiate 8+ on Saturday. The Bruins edged racing crews from California and Oregon State to secure the first-place finish.
The Bruins will return to action in February, competing in an exhibition regatta against California in Redwood Shores, Calif.
UCLA will host a pair of home regattas against USC and Loyola Marymount on Saturday, March 9, and on Saturday, March 23, respectively.
