October 09, 2023 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – UCLA Women's Basketball has four student-athletes represented on the Pac-12 Preseason Media All-Conference Team and Honorable Mention list, the Conference released Monday.
Graduate shooting guard Charisma Osborne and sophomore point guard Kiki Rice secured their spots on the All-Conference team; redshirt junior Emily Bessoir and sophomore Lauren Betts earned honorable mention (received three-or-more votes from members of the media).
Osborne comes off an All-Pac-12 (coaches and media) season in which she landed ninth all-time for the Bruins in points scored (1,798 points). The Moreno Valley-native was also named to the WBCA All-America Honorable Mention and All-Pac-12 Defensive Team Honorable Mention after the 2022-23 season. Rice was named Pac-12 All-Freshman for both coaches and media honors and earned Pac-12 All-Tournament team for her performance in the Conference postseason competition. She was the first freshman since Jordin Canada to have 400+ points, 100+ assists and 100+ made free throws in her inaugural season at UCLA.
Bessoir returns after an impressive comeback season; after sitting out the entire 2021-22 campaign due to injury, the German forward played in all 37 games during the 2022-23 season. She was named to the Pac-12 All-Tournament team after averaging 15.0 ppg, 8.2 rpg in the four conference postseason games, and she earned Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. Betts joins the Bruins after spending a year with the Stanford Cardinal; the 6-foot-7 center averaged 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and nearly one block in 9.7 minutes per game. Betts shot a team-high 60.2 percent from the field during her freshman season.
