Latu Named Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week
November 20, 2023 | Football
Senior defensive end Laiatu Latu was named Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week in Monday's announcement by the conference office of the Pac-12 Football Performance Awards presented by Nextiva.
Latu helped the Bruins to a commanding 38-20 win over crosstown rival USC on Saturday at the Coliseum, leading the team in tackles (seven) and sacks (two). It was his third multi-sack performance of the 2023 season, and marked his seventh game with multiple tackles for loss.
As a team, UCLA limited USC to just three rushing yards, the fewest the Bruins have allowed in a single game in 17 years (Arizona had -13 rushing yards on Oct. 7, 2006).
This marks the third time overall, and second time this season, that Latu has brought home weekly honors from the Pac-12. He had previously been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after games against Washington State (Oct. 7, 2023) and Colorado (Sept. 24, 2022).
UCLA concludes its regular season schedule this Saturday, hosting California at the Rose Bowl starting at 7:30 p.m. PT.
