HONOLULUย -- No. 1ย UCLA (6-0) posted two more wins on Saturdayย at Queen's Beach to capture its second-straight Duke Kahanamokuย Beach Classic title. The Bruins openedย with a 5-0 semifinal win over Saint Mary's (2-4) and then defeated ninth-ranked Stanford (4-2) for the second time this week, 4-1.ย With the two victories, UCLA improved to 10-0 all-time against Saint Mary's and 18-0 versusย Stanford.
Senior Lexy Denaburg was named the Most Outstanding player while her partner, freshman Maggie Boyd, was named Best Defender.
In the first dual against the Gaels, the Bruins went 10-1 in sets, recording its third 5-0 sweep of the young season.
The Bruins went up 1-0 on court five as senior Rileigh Powers and graduate student Haley Hallgren, made quick work of the Gaels' Angie Bour and Cameron Martinez, 21-8, 21-6.
UCLA put another point on the board whenย Boyd and Denaburg posted a straight set win on court one over former Bruin Hawley Harrer and Daniella Kensinger, 21-11, 21-16.
Junior Peri Brennan teamed up with graduate student Abby Van Winkle to clinch the dual on court two with identical set scores of 21-11 to beat SMC's Paola Peralta and Genevieve Bane.
Graduate students Jaden Whitmarsh and Marlie Monserezย made it 4-0 with a 21-16, 21-15 win on court four over the Gaels' Allie Cataldo and Sadie Shipman.
Junior Tessa Van Winkle and sophomore Sophie Mooreย completed the 5-0 sweep on court three but had to come-from-behind to do so, defeating Karmin Brown and Hannah Couch, 19-21, 21-14, 20-18.
The Bruins defeated the Cardinal in championship dual, 4-1.
Denaburg and Boyd put the Bruins up 1-0 with a 21-10, 21-13 win over Charlie Ekstrom and Kate Reilly on court one.
Tessa Van Winkle and Moore made it 2-0 UCLA with a 21-18, 21-14 win on court three over Stanford's Line Andersson and Taylor Wilson.
Powers and Hallgren remained undefeated on the year and clinched the Bruins' win with a 21-14, 21-16 win on court five over the Cardinal's Sophie Kubiak and Phoenix Clarke.
Brennan and Abby Van Winkle made it 4-0 with a 21-15, 21-13 win on court two over Maya Harvey and Maddi Kriz.
Stanford scored its lone point of the dual on court four when Ashley Vincent and Kelly Belardi defeated UCLA's Jaden Whitmarsh and Marlie Monserez, 21-18, 21-16.
The Bruins return to action next week when they host the Pac-12 South Invitational at Mapes Beach (Mar. 4-5). UCLA will open with Oregon at 8:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, Mar. 4.
